    Character Creation Empty Character Creation

    The First steps:

    • Set your concept.  This should be a short, single sentence that describes your character and their general attitudes.
    • Choose your supernatural type (Changeling, Vampire, or Werewolf).
    • Choose what sub-factions you may wish to belong (Tribe, Clan, Covenant, Seeming, Court).
    • Have a basic goal your character wishes to accomplish. This does not need to be complex, or even relate well to the rest of the game, but I have found that a players enjoyment is greatly increased when they have some kind of goal  they can fall back on trying to accomplish when they are directly involved in some other plot.
At this point in Character creation we should have a solid enough idea of your character that we can inform you if the character will be able to fit into the game.

    • You gain 180 additional Experience to spend as appropriate. The characters are assumed to be young and very competent, or older and more experienced. They're catalysts, movers and shakers and the sorts of individuals who can easily impact the setting and those around them.
    • You may buy down Humanity, Clarity or Harmony to gain 10 XP for each dot lowered from the base rating of 7. Keep in mind with the updates this could mean you have no attached Touchstones unless they're purchased separately; this could mean that loss of these traits can happen much quicker, and if only having one remaining Touchstone its destruction could pose strong issues for the character.
    • Purchasing Humanity, Clarity or Harmony up costs 6 XP per dot.
    • Your Supernatural Advantage of Blood Potency, Wyrd or Primal Urge may be bought up at the flat rate of 10 XP; *there is no limit to how high.
*Keep in mind that ratings past 5 generally have some stark drawbacks that may be prohibitive to the intended character concept and normally reflect an ancient or otherwise a character that has led one -very- interesting existence. The character background should reflect this in part; it's rare for such characters to be walking around without extraordinary efforts put towards survival, and often they will be thin in other character traits.
    • You may take a starting Persistent Condition to reflect a character drawback pending Storyteller approval to gain Beats on an ongoing basis as per its listing. It is not recommended these be taken unless absolutely suiting to the character; these are not quick and easy XP grabs and are not intended to make the character a chore to deal with by the other players, they're major flaws and may only be fully resolved pending ST approval. Build a competent character, not one arbitrarily crippled in hopes of racking up XP.

Character Creation Empty Character Background Guidelines

Post  Victor Tue Sep 02, 2014 2:20 pm

On character backgrounds which we expect from Players:

    Do:

    • Make it a page or less, preferably in point form for ease of reference and reading.
    • Mention who the character was as a Mortal (or at least, what they remember of who they were as a mortal). If they have living relatives/relations? Mention it. Very few people are entirely lacking of such, even some truly ancient Kindred may still have descendants from their breathing days. Touchstones should be referenced in this if the character has any.
    • An initial long-term Aspiration. This usually takes a few months (possibly more) to achieve, but coming in with a basic long-term goal helps us know what direction to potentially take with the character and what it's after.
    • Make it relevant. What a character intends to do, or has done within New Oskana, or past actions that will colour their time in the city are the most important. It's fine and well if the character was a traveling biker bad ass wreaking havoc in other cities such as Chicago, but without the proper merits or flaws to reflect it , it's unlikely to have much impact on the game. Don't worry about detailing such events too heavily. Focus more on the setting at hand, and perhaps some tidbits others could uncover about your character.
